1. New International Laughter Club Exchange Program : The first international Laughter Yoga conference was held in Mumbai between 17th and 20th of March 2005 to mark the 10th anniversary of the Laughter Yoga Movement.
An important outcome of this conference was the decision to start an International Laughter Club Exchange Program. Under this program 5 to 10 delegates from one state or country visit a Laughter Club from another state or country on a mutual exchange basis. The hosts will provide hospitality, take the visitors around the local Laughter Clubs and organize a program aimed to develop a feeling of community and cultural understanding.
The response to this decision was so enthusiastic that many foreign delegates attending the conference suggested immediate implementation and were provided home-stay in the local cities of Mumbai, Pune and Baroda. This is a great step toward networking and creating an international Laughter Yoga community. If you want to participate in this exchange program and have an extra room in your home kindly email us the details at laugh@laughteryoga.org and we will send out your offer all over the world. We will post information about this subject shortly on www.laughteryoga.org. Stay tuned!
The conference itself was a great success and was attended by 450 delegates from India, Canada, Mexico, Australia, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Rumania, Spain, Jordan and Egypt.
2. Celebrating World Laughter Day on May 1st: Mission World Peace through Laughter We are proud to announce that World Laughter Day will be celebrated this year on all 5 continents. India will lead the way on a large scale with thousands of people marching nationwide with banners and placards depicting messages of World Peace through laughter. Dr Kataria and his wife Madhuri will be present together with thousands of people in Coppenhagen, Denmark, laughing and praying for World Peace.
Similarly, World Laughter Day will be celebrated all over the West on the main squares, public parks and important local landmarks. There will be laughter sessions, musical programs, dancing and laughter competitions. We appeal to our Laughter Leaders to contact their local authorities at either city and/or country level to officially proclaim May 1st as World Laughter Day. Also send out a press release to all the media.
There are a number of alternatives to celebrate this event in case there is nothing happening in your community:
Make telephone conferences and laugh with your loved ones
Contact radio stations and do a laughter session on the air
Go to online chat rooms and exchange ho ho ha ha ha hi hi hi etc.
3. Message from Dr. Madan Kataria, Founder of the Laughter Yoga Movement (to be read out during your World Laughter Day celebration)
The Laughter Club movement started with just 5 people 10 years ago. It has grown into a worldwide family of more than 3500 clubs. Everyday 150,000 laugh in India and more than 100,000 practice Laughter Yoga every week in western countries. Laughter Clubs are the fastest growing community in the world!
It is through the power of laughter that we can unite the whole world because laughter is a universal language we all speak. We are developing a worldwide community who believes in love, compassion and forgiveness. Laughter is a positive energy that can build a collective consciousness of international brotherhood and friendship.
Therefore, on this auspicious occasion of World Laughter Day I appeal to all the human beings of this beautiful planet to support and join the laughter club movement. Let us all spread our arms looking up toward the sky and laugh for 1 minute for no reason sending out positive healing vibrations to bring World Peace ha ha ha ha ha.
